Absolutely fantastic gardeners article. Can I just add:
Buying Plant Seed – Plan Ahead
When buying seeds it is easy to get carried away by thoughts of flower beds filled with row upon row of glorious colour. Do not forget that the plants need to be raised in frost free and light conditions until as late as May when the weather warms up sufficiently to plant them in the garden. Consider carefully how much space will be available, particularly in April when the tiny seedlings will have increased in size considerably

I will have a look if I'm passing a Poundland (we don't have one locally), but surely I can't be the only one with concerns about 'windowsill' courgettes?

Hmmm not sure, they still seem to do a great deal of good work with schools and colleges, their booklet is one of the most interesting available and they have lots of links with small and clearly not class defined gardens. I am sure they could do better, but I would not dismiss them so easily as the article does.

I cant agree with this post more. The feel good factor from gardening is unquestionable. Get out in the garden and live life to the full. Great gardening article. Applies to gardeners in the UK and all over the world

Thanks for your comments - I think there are strict controls on the content of the waste that can be produced and there is also a strong move towards organic.

Here is another system that is totally organic and rather interesting.http://www.aquaponics.com/InfoAquaponics.htm

Hope all well and hot with you in S.Africa?

Hydroponics produces toxic waste, once the plants are grown. The substrate carries a burden of fertiliser.

Global warming also has implications for the cutflower industry. And consumers of cut flowers. High up on our mountain there are plantations of proteas for the export trade.
